Home News More to be done to tackle chronic diseases in Region 10
– Health Committee Chairman
Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice) Health Committee Chairman, Dr Gregory Harris has made a call for an increase in promotional health activities in the Region, owing to what he has described as the high rate of chronic diseases.
Dr Harris is, therefore, urging officials within the Region to work together in terms of promoting preventative measures.
He explained that the Health Committee, over the past year, has failed to achieve much of its mandate, owing to a lack of communication among its members. Dr Harris expressed the hope that this would change come 2017, so that much more could be achieved.
“In 2016, personally I haven’t achieved as much as I wanted to, because the Health Committee did not have enough meetings because persons weren’t turning up. At the end of this year, you would have wanted to look back and to see that you have achieved something, but we didn’t have enough meetings as possible,” he said.
Regardless, the Health Committee Chairman noted that, come next year, he does not intend to waste any time and made calls for a reshuffling of Committee members in an effort to move ahead with the Committee’s business.
