Morocco King congratulates President Ali, wants to start “new chapter” with Guyana

President Dr. Irfaan Ali has received a congratulatory letter from the King of Morocco, who expressed hope that the two nations can start a “new chapter” of co-operation.

In his letter, His Majesty King Mohammed VI of Morocco said, “We keenly look forward, in the Kingdom of Morocco, to working with the Co-operative Republic of Guyana to start a new chapter in our relations based on dialogue, consultation and full respect for our countries’ peculiarities and immutable values. This should help us fulfil our people’s aspirations for fruitful co-operation rooted in the principles of South-South solidarity.”
King Mohammed VI also expressed his “warmest congratulations” to President Ali, and extended best wishes for his success in high office.
Guyana and the Kingdom of Morocco established formal diplomatic ties on December 14, 2012. On the fifth year of diplomatic relations, in December 2017, Guyana accredited a new Moroccan Ambassador, Mr. Nabil Adghoghi. The new ambassador had said there is potential for significant cooperation between Guyana and Morocco, noting that his country has a keen interest in developing partnerships in agriculture, fisheries, maritime transport, professional training, water management, student exchanges.

“Guyana has been playing an important role in regional and international relations, especially in the formulation of development policies… Morocco launched in November in Brasilia, negotiations for free trade agreement with Mercosur [Common Market of the South] to which Guyana is an associate member. This framework will automatically impact the development, economic and commercial ties between our two countries,” the Moroccan diplomat had stated.
