Two brothers from Santa Rosa, Moruca, Region One (Barima–Waini), were killed on Thursday after the speeding motor car in which they were travelling lost control and veered into the path of a minibus along the La Union Public Road, West Coast Demerara (WCD).
The deceased are Mickel Daniels, 20, and his older brother, Miguel Daniels, 22.
Police stated that the accident involved motor car PAC 9853, driven by 23-year-old Moruca businessman Thomas Henry and carrying the Daniels brothers; minibus BWW 4493, driven by a 39-year-old male of Harlem, WCD; and motor car PAE 4787, driven by a 23-year-old from Providence, East Bank Demerara (EBD).
Preliminary investigations revealed that the motor car carrying the two deceased brothers was heading toward the Bharrat Jagdeo River Bridge at a high rate of speed when Henry reportedly lost control of the vehicle and veered into the path of the minibus, resulting in a head-on collision.
The third vehicle, which was travelling behind the minibus, swerved to avoid a collision but ended up hitting the left rear of the minibus and veered to the side of the road.

Due to the impact of the collision, Henry and the two brothers, the driver and one passenger of the minibus, and the driver of the third vehicle, sustained injuries to their bodies.
The brothers, along with the others, were taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital, where the Daniels were pronounced dead. The others were admitted and are being treated. Henry is reportedly in serious condition and is being treated for multiple injuries.
Traffic ranks are currently reviewing CCTV footage that was obtained as investigations continue.
Meanwhile, when contacted, the mother of the two boys, Angie Daniel, related that she was at home in Moruca when she received the devastating news. She told Guyana Times that the two young men had travelled to Georgetown and were staying with their sister in Prospect, EBD.
She could not say where they were heading when the accident occurred but confirmed that they had travelled to the city to visit Lethem for the Rupununi Rodeo this weekend.
The devastated mother was still in a state of shock but described her sons as loving, caring, and hard-working.
The Moruca Sub-Office, in a social media post, expressed its heartfelt condolences to the parents of the two brothers and wished Henry a swift recovery. “Let’s keep all affected families and friends in our thoughts and prayers,” the post stated.
