Mother of 1 killed in motorcycle accident

A former teacher was on Sunday killed after the motorbike on which she was travelling slammed into a metal rail along the Seawell Public Road, Corentyne, Berbice.

Dead: Radha Shivcharran

Dead is 29-year-old Radha Shivcharran of Lot 86 North Belvedere, Corentyne, Berbice. She was reportedly the pillion rider at the time of the accident.
Based on reports received, the accident occurred at about 10:45h and involved motorcycle CK 4094, driven by Kenny Teakadharry, 36, of Albion Road, Corentyne.
Teakadharry was reportedly driving at a fast rate of speed and lost control of the motorcycle while negotiating a turn. As a result, he collided with a steel rail. Both Shivcharran and Teakadharry were flung from the motorcycle and landed on the roadway.
They were picked up and taken to the New Amsterdam Hospital where Shivcharran was pronounced dead on arrival. Teakadharry, on the other hand, was admitted with a fractured right leg.
At the home of the dead woman, her mother, Nandranie Shivcharran, explained that she left home without having breakfast but told her that she would be back shortly. However, after she had her breakfast, she was informed of the accident and her daughter’s subsequent demise.
“I didn’t know that she was going out with the boy because she know I don’t want her to go with him so, because of that, she did not tell me. She has her boyfriend in Trinidad. She tell her boyfriend that she was not going anywhere and was going to sleep. So, he think that she was sleeping.”
She noted that details surrounding the accident are sketchy but noted that based on information received, Teakadharry was racing with another motorcycle. The dead woman is the mother of a 9-year-old.
She was in the process of making arrangements to marry her boyfriend. She leaves to mourn her mother, child and siblings. An investigation into the fatal accident is underway.
