Mother of 8 received death threats 1 day before being murdered

Just a day before she was found dead, Waheeda Shamshudeen seemed terrified and panic-stricken, after receiving death threats. The 52-year-old-year-old mother of eight was hacked to death.

Dead: Waheeda Shamshudeen

In an interview with Guyana Times, the woman’s children said she told them on Wednesday, that her neighbour had threatened to rape and kill her. Threats from the man were a regular occurrence and as such, her four sons took her to the police station, where a report was made.
However, upon arriving, the woman’s son, Yasir Khan, said he and his brothers were arrested instead, and held for 24 hours.
“We went fuh take mommy fuh mek a report at de station, and the police them arrest we. De next morning, we hear we mother get murder,” he said.

Family members gathered at the Good Hope, East Bank Essequibo home

On the same day, the same neighbour who allegedly threatened to kill the woman, reportedly chopped her 20-year-old son, Nazir Khan, to his back and head. The young man is currently battling for his life in the Intensive Care Unit at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
On Thursday, someone entered the woman’s Good Hope, East Bank Essequibo (EBE) house, struck her to her head, severed her neck and then placed a plastic bag over her face.
The woman’s son-in-law, Leon Parahoo, a minibus driver, who hails from Zeelugt, East Bank Essequibo (EBE), said at about 08:00h he went to pick up his mother-in-law to take her to the Georgetown hospital to visit her son, who is now hospitalised.
The man said he made several calls to the woman, but all the calls went unanswered.
Parahoo said he pushed the door and suspected something was amiss since it was open, which was unusual. He said upon entering the house, he saw his mother-in-law’s motionless body in a pool of blood. He said that the body was covered with a sheet and the home was ransacked.
The woman’s daughter, Nabeela Shamshudeen, told this publication that her brothers would take turns to sleep at their mother’s home each night.
“My mother is a good woman, she did everything for her children… this will really affect us,” the grieving daughter said.
The family believes that their neighbour is responsible for their mother’s death, since he was the last person who threatened to kill her. They revealed that it has been 28 years since the two families have not been on speaking terms due to a land dispute.
“We came from a very poor family, we had a little house we use to stay in, and this family fight us for it…everything came due to the house and land.”
Three persons were initially arrested in relation to the murder. However, on Friday, two were released from custody. The woman’s children said their mother’s death is a hard hit for them, since they recently lost their father, and are hoping that their youngest brother recovers from his injuries.
The family is calling for justice to prevail for the woman as Police continue their investigation. (G15)
