Mother, son die in Linden Highway accident

A mother and son are now dead while three other family members are in critical condition following an accident on the Soesdyke/Linden Highway.
Dead are Tessa Telford Ibrahim, 60; and her son Marlon McFarlane, 30. Injured are Maisha Ibrahim, 23; Patricia McFarlane, nine; and Roshana McFarlane, seven; all of Lot 119 Highway Boulevard, Amelia’s Ward, Linden.
Reports are the family was returning to Linden, Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice) on Saturday at about 15:30h when the accident occurred at the Moblissa Bridge, Soesdyke/Linden Highway.
McFarlane was an employee of Guyana Goldfields and a former member of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF).
Guyana Times was told that Maisha Ibrahim, 23, who is Tessa’s niece, lost control of the motorcar, PNN 3987, after she reportedly dropped in a pothole and swerved to the opposite side of the road.
This ran the vehicle into a ditch and came to a halt after it collided with a tree.
Following the incident, public spirited persons rushed the family to the Linden Hospital Complex where the seamstress and her son were pronounced dead on arrival.
Nine-year-old Patricia McFarlane was transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital in an unconscious state while seven-year-old McFarlane and Maisha Ibrahim were admitted to the Linden Hospital Complex.
Police have since launched an investigation.
