Mother, son freed on wounding charge

A woman and her son have been freed on a wounding charge after city Magistrate Dylon Bess ruled that the prosecution had failed to prove its case beyond a reasonable doubt.

Ann Narine

In February 2019, Fiona Rodrigues and her 21-year-old son Emanuel Barker were charged with unlawfully and maliciously wounding businesswoman Ann Narine on January 5, 2019 at Blygezight Gardens in Georgetown.
They had pleaded not guilty to the charge, and were released on cash bail when they appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts. During their trial, they were represented by Attorneys-at-Law Latchmie Rahamat and Bernard DaSilva.
When their trial concluded on Wednesday, the Magistrate held that the prosecution had failed to prove its case, and thus dismissed the charges against them.
According to reports, on the day in question, Narine went to the location to meet Rodrigues’s husband. Upon arrival, she reportedly called out for the man, and was told that he would be there shortly. It was reported that Rodrigues and her son ran out and attacked Narine, relieving her of a large quantity of cash and her cellphone.
It was reported that the injured woman managed to escape, and drove to a private city hospital, where she was treated for bite marks and multiple lacerations. Based on reports, the injuries, which were inflicted with a broken bottle, required stitches. (G1)
