Mother, stepfather remanded for rape of a 14-year-old girl

A mother and stepfather of Ebini, Upper Berbice River, Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice), who are accused of raping their child, were charged for the offence and remanded to prison.
The couple – the child’s 28-year-old mother and her 51-year-old stepfather – appeared before Magistrate Wanda Fortune on Friday at the Kwakwani Magistrate’s Court. They were both charged under the Sexual Offences Act for sexual activity with a child family member.
The duo was not required to plead and were remanded to prison.
According to reports, it is alleged that the stepfather raped the child with the mother’s knowledge. The child became pregnant and the matter was reported to the Child Care and Protection Agency.
The child has since been removed from the home and placed into protective custody. The duo will return to court on December 16.
