– Thorne, Sampson awarded GHE Franchise contracts
West Indies Test opener Tagenarine Chanderpaul and left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie have secured Cricket West Indies (CWI) retainer contracts, the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) announced on Thursday.

Chanderpaul, 27, has featured in eight Tests so far with an average of 40.69 and a best of 207 not out while Motie, 28, has picked up 22 wickets in four Tests as well as 14 wickets in seven One-Day Internationals. Both players are currently in the Guyana Harpy Eagles (GHE) squad playing in the Regional Super50.

The GCB indicated that by virtue of Chanderpaul and Motie’s ascension, two spots have opened within the Harpy Eagles franchise for contracts which were awarded to Quinten Sampson and Isai Thorne.

Sampson, who hails from Essequibo, is a hard-hitting all-rounder while Thorne is a West Indies youth pacer, considered to be among the fastest in the Region at his level. Sampson is in the Harpy Eagles squad for the Regional Super50 while Thorne is representing Combined Campuses and Colleges.
