Motie’s all-round brilliance leads Galaxy to comfortable win
– Bishoo contributes to the cause
In action in the Caribbean Fest 40 overs tournament on Sunday, the Galaxy Cricket Club defeated the New York Kings, thanks to a brilliant all round performance from Guyana Amazon Warriors player Gudakesh Motie. Contributing to the victory in a reduced capacity but with both ball and bat was Devendra Bishoo.
In the game, Galaxy CC won the toss an opted to bat first. From the get-go, the Galaxy side found themselves in a spot of bother, as they lost wickets in quick succession. The score moved from 9 for 1 to 28 for 5, and then saw respite before progressing to 77 for 6.
It seemed as though the Galaxy side would be bundled out for less than 100 runs, but that was before Motie came to the crease with something to prove, and smashed a rather aggressive 57 which included 5 boundaries and 2 maximums at a strike rate of 116.33.
The revival was far from over as, even though Motie’s wicket fell, former West Indies player Devendra Bishoo played his part and contributed a handy 49. And just when the Kings thought they had wrapped up the game, Telson Johnson blasted a quickfire 62 off 36 deliveries, his innings including 3 boundaries and 6 maximums to take the Galaxy score to 216 all out in 34.4 overs.
Bowling for the Kings were Maninder Jakhu, who took 3-44; Sanjeev Rahull Kumar, who took 5-29; and Anmolpreet Singh, who snared a wicket for 35 runs.
Needing 217 runs to win – an achievable goal if they put their minds to it – the Kings soon found themselves faring worse than their opponents, as the score moved from a wicket without a run recorded to 93 all out, thanks to the bowling efforts of Motie, who was undeniably excellent in terms of line and length.
Motie picked up 4-25, ably supported by Hemindra Ramdihal with 4-18 and Devendra Bishoo with 1-23.
Motie has thus far played a total of 4 matches, and has scored 57 runs at an average of 28.50. He has also shown his worth with the ball in bagging 8 wickets at an average of 6.75 and an economy rate of 3.12.
