A motorcyclist took his last breath on Friday evening while receiving medical attention at the Georgetown Public Hospital following an accident at Water and Holmes Street, Georgetown.
Dead is 23-year-old Kemo Stewart of Lot 58 Vigilance/Bladen Hall, East Coast Demerara (ECD). Based on reports received, at about 06:30h on Friday, a truck driven by Mahendra Mahase was proceeding along Water Street when the motorcyclist reportedly failed to stop, and as such, collided with the left rear wheel of the trailer.

Stewart was picked up and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was admitted and treated for a fractured leg and lacerations to the body.
However, the ECD resident succumbed to his injuries at about 22:45h.
The driver of the motor lorry owned by Hack and Sons of Mahaica, ECD was subsequently tested for alcohol but there was no trace of alcohol in his system. Nevertheless, he was arrested and is assisting with the investigations.
Speaking with Guyana Times on Saturday, the dead man’s grandmother, Lynda Griffith, explained that on Friday, her grandson accompanied a friend to the GPHC to seek medical attention but as the friend was being examined by the doctor, he left and was heading to River View, Ruimveldt, Georgetown to hand over some money to the mother of his child.
She stated that it was while on his way to her, he met in the accident. She said after relatives received the news, they rushed to the hospital where he was in a semi-conscious state, but he seemed to be coming around despite receiving severe injuries to his body.
The weeping grandmother noted that after some time, relatives left the hospital and returned home. At about 23:00h, she noted that the family received news of his passing. The father of one was working with the OPSET International Security Firm up to the time of his demise.
While the family is still to get a clear understanding of what led to the young man’s demise, they were initially told that Stewart collided with a truck transporting rice.
They are awaiting a Police report, the aggrieved grandmother stated. She described her now dead grandson as a joyous and caring individual. He leaves to mourn his five siblings and other relatives.
A post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted on Monday after which the body will be handed over to the family to make preparations for interment. Only on Friday, the Police revealed an 18.1 per cent decrease in both fatal accidents and road deaths, with nine cases this year against 11 in 2017 for both categories.
The Police also recorded decreases in minor and damage accidents, with a six per cent and 11.1 per cent respectively. Serious accidents remained the same as the corresponding figure last year with 18 cases.
