A motorcyclist is now dead after he reportedly crashed into the rear of a minibus along the Prospect Public Road, East Bank Demerara (EBD), on Friday.
The dead man man has been identified as Calvin Pitt of Werk-en-Rust, Georgetown. Based on reports received, on the day in question, the minibus bearing registration number BMM 5344 was driving along the Prospect Public Road when the driver alleged that he felt a hard impact at the back of his vehicle.
As a result of the collision, Pitt was flung into the air and flew into the rear windscreen of the minibus. He landed on the rear passenger seat of the minibus.
He was subsequently transported to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he lost consciousness. He was admitted and was treated for head injuries, broken ribs and fractured legs along with a series of other injuries. He nevertheless succumebed a few hours later.
A breathalyser test was conducted on the driver of the minibus but there were no traces of alcohol in his system. He was taken into custody and is expected to be charged shortly.
