Motorcyclist dies in Berbice crash

A motorcyclist in now dead after he crashed the bike he was riding into a sluice on the West Coast of Berbice, Region Five (Mahaica/Berbice).

Dead is 30-year-old Waygon Garrett of Lot 1, Section ‘A,’ Cotton Tree Old Road, WCB. The accident took place on the Number 6 Public Road, WCB.
According to the dead man’s sister, Desiree, at about 15:30h on Thursday, he visited her at her Number 6 Village home and told her that he loves her. The woman related that Garrett had also asked to tell their other sisters that he loves them.
Desiree further told this publication that before her brother left, he also asked her to prepare funeral clothes for him. She said about five minutes after he left, she received a telephone call that he had met with an accident.
When she got to the scene, the woman said, she was told by the Police that her brother was taken to the hospital.
Reports reaching Guyana Times indicate that after hitting the uprights of the sluice, Garrett was thrown into the air and landed in the sluice, and had to be fished out of the water. The motorbike was left lying on the road.
Desiree said when she saw her brother’s body at the mortuary, blood was oozing from the back of his head, suggesting that he had sustained head injuries. His legs also seemed to have been broken, she related to this newspaper.
The father of four had separated from his wife two weeks ago. It is still unclear what the grounds for separation were.
In addition to his children, Garrett leaves to mourn his mother and five brothers and five sisters. Police are investigating.
