Home News Motorcyclist injured after being struck by drunken driver
A 46-year-old motorcyclist Abaqal Johnas of Courtland Village, Corentyne, Berbice, Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne) is now suffering head injuries after she was struck by a drunken driver on Monday evening.
The collision reportedly occurred on the Bolam Public Road, Corentyne about 17:00h on the day in question.
Police said that at the time of the incident, the motor car bearing registration number HC 7057 was being driven by a 41-year-old man of Sixth Street, Rose Hall Town, Corentyne.
Reports indicate that the driver was proceeding along the roadway at a fast pace, causing him to lose control of the vehicle which slammed into the motorcyclist.
As a result of the collision, Johnas reportedly fell on to the roadway and sustained several injuries about her body.
The injured motorcyclist was picked up by public-spirited citizens and rushed to the New Amsterdam Hospital, where she was admitted.
Police say Johnas remains a patient at the Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU), where she is suffering from head injuries.
Meanwhile, according to the Police report, a breathalyser test conducted on the driver proved that he was above the legal limit of alcohol consumption.
Both the motorcycle and the motor car are lodged at the Albion Police Station, where they will be examined by a Licence and Certifying Officer. The driver remains in custody as investigations continue.
