Motorcyclist injured following 2-vehicle collision

A female driver was arrested on Wednesday evening after an accident along the # 2 Public Road, East Canje, Berbice left a motorcyclist hospitalised.
The Police have said that 21-year-old Garvie Hetnarine of Warren Village in #19 Village, East Coast Berbice suffered a fractured left thigh and a severed left thumb after his motorcycle collided with a motorcar being driven by a 36-year-old woman of #2 Village.
According to reports received, motorcar PJJ 2827 was proceeding along the #2 Public Road in East Canje ahead of motorcycle CK 6398 when the driver of the car reportedly indicated that she was turning into Percy Smith Street in East Canje, and in so doing, the motorcyclist overtook the car and collided with its right-side front portion. This resulted in the motorcyclist falling onto the road surface and receiving injuries about his body. The driver of the motorcar also received injuries about her body.
They were both taken to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital, where they were examined. The driver of the motorcar was treated and sent away, while the motorcyclist was admitted a patient. His condition is regarded as stable.
Breathalyser tests were conducted on both drivers, but there was no trace of alcohol in the system of either driver. The driver of the motorcar has been arrested, pending investigations.
