Motorcyclist killed after colliding with cow in Berbice
A Corentyne welder was killed on Wednesday evening when the motorbike he was riding collided with a cow on the Corentyne Highway at Number 55 Village.
The dead man has been identified as Ravindra Nazamoodin, 25, of Number 56 Village, Corentyne, Berbice, Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne).
Police in a releases said the accident occurred at about 21:00h when Nazamoodin was proceeding South along the eastern side of the roadway when he coll
ided with a dark brown cow. As a result of the impact, he fell onto the roadway and
sustained injuries to his head. He was taken to Skeldon Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The animal was discovered dead a short distance away. Meanwhile, Guyana Times understands that the man had gone to a shop to make a purchase for his wife and was on his way back when the accident occurred.
Reports are a canter truck was coming from the opposite direction while the animal was lying on the roadway. As the canter approached the animal, it reportedly got up and started to run towards the parapet and it was then the bike and cow came into contact.
Nazamoodin is said to have been wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. The helmet was found hooked to the cow’s horn.
Meanwhile, the now dead man’s brother, Looknught Iszamadeen, told this
publication that he saw the cow with its brand. “I see the brand and I recognised it. 79GC. I made this brand for a farmer last year. So after I see the brand, I cut out the part with the brand because I don’t trust the Police…”
