As a result, the motorcyclists and the pillion rider fell onto the roadway and sustained injuries. They were picked up by public-spirited citizens in an unconscious state and taken to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital where Joseph died while receiving treatment.
At the time of the accident, the now dead man was not wearing a helmet.
Regional Traffic Officer, Assistant Superintendent Ruan Clark reminded motorcyclists that is important to wear safety helmets

“This will secure your head which is one of the main parts of your body. When these accidents do occur most of the times the motorcyclists are driving without safety helmets and are racing down the road and that is the end result.”
Clark further noted that there is a trend of motorcyclists not wearing the necessary protective gears.
“I am not saying that once you are wearing a safety helmet it is 100 per cent guarantee that you would not receive serious injuries. However, helmets were made for motorcyclists to wear when they are traversing on a motorcycle so as to enable them to be safe,” ASP Clark said as he urged motorcyclists to drive safely.
