Motorcyclist killed in suspected hit and run in Berbice

A 25-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a suspected hit-and-run accident along the Letter Kenny Public Road, Corentyne, Berbice, Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne), on Wednesday evening.

The deceased has been identified as Shawn Smith of Lot 17 Fingal Street, Rose Hall Town, Corentyne, Berbice.
Based on reports received, on the night in question, at about 22:35h, Smith was found in an unconscious state with injuries to his face and other parts of his body. He was picked up and taken to the Port Mourant Public Hospital for emergency medical attention where he succumbed while receiving medical attention.
His motorcycle, bearing registration number CK 2517, was found next to the injured man with some damage. The motorcycle is lodged at the Whim Police Station.
It is suspected that Smith was proceeding along the roadway when a vehicle slammed into his motorcycle from behind, thus causing him to fall onto the roadway.
The police have launched an investigation into the accident.
Just two weeks ago, 35-year-old Suresh Arjune, an employee of Banks DIH Limited’s Airy Hall branch in Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) was struck down and killed along the Adventure Public Road, Essequibo Coast.
It was reported that the driver of the motor car was under the influence of alcohol when he slammed into the motorcycle Arjune was riding at the time.
As a result of the impact, he fell to the roadway and sustained severe injuries to his head and other parts of his body.
Arjune was picked up in an unconscious state and rushed to the Suddie Public Hospital, Essequibo Coast, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
