A motorcyclist is now a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) after he collided with an SUV at the Ogle Railway, East Coast Demerara (ECD) on Monday.
He has since only been identified as “Rastaman”.
The injured man was riding motorcycle CH 4902 at about 15:00h when the accident occurred. Guyana Times was told that the motorcyclist was proceeding east along the railway at a fast rate, while the SUV was proceeding south along the Airstrip Road when the collision occurred.
An eyewitness said that the motorcyclist bypassed the traffic light which signalled stop and collided with the SUV, which had the signal to go.
The rider reportedly lost control and was flung across the road and ended up onto the parapet, resulting in his injuries.
Before the accident, the man was wearing a protective helmet, however, due to the impact of the collision, the helmet was flung off his head.
Ranks of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) arrived at the scene immediately after and transported the injured man to the hospital.
Regional Commander and Assistant Commissioner, Royston Andries Junor in an interview with this publication, said that an investigation has been launched into the matter.
