– DCC tipped to beat GYO
Jeremiah Scott led Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) will have to turn in a superb display on Sunday if they are to defy the odds to get past Transport Sports Club (TSC) in the first seminal of the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) in collaboration with Guyana Diabetic Association / PAHO T20 Under-17 competition.
The venue for the match is the Home of Legends, more commonly known as Demerara Cricket Club (DCC). The first ball is slated to bowl off at 9:30h and TSC will start as favourites.
The contest could be dubbed ‘Clash of the Neighbours’ or ‘Clash of the Thomas Land Sides’ but nevertheless it is a clash of two teams, who have played well to making to the semifinals. TSC topped their group, finishing unbeaten and completing a win against the defending champions DCC while MSC lost to Gandhi Youth Organization (GYO) in their only mishap of the tournament.
National youth player and Berbice U-17 skipper Kevlon Anderson, Adrian Hinds and Joel Spooner are the big names in the TSC side while Scott, Wayne Bollers, Kester McAllister and Tuen Hicks are expected to provide inspiration for the rest of the MSC side.
In the second semifinal which is set for the said day from 13:30h, reigning champs DCC will take on GYO for a place in the final.
DCC are definitely the favourites, their team comprises of several talented players, who execute at most times beyond their age. Ashmead Nedd, Alphius Bookie, Qumar Torrington and Dequan Bamfield are just four of the many talents within the Queenstown unit.
Apart from their strong squad they will also have home advantage on their side but GYO who have played quality cricket to reach to this stage will also be hopeful. Yeudistir Persaud is a popular name and he along with his colleagues will be looking to create an upset.
Both teams have everything to play for and whoever loses will be exiting the tournament so who play the best on the day will progress.
Mikoowanyah Yisrael and Cyril Garnath are the umpires name to officiate the match.
Meanwhile the final is set for Monday May 1, Labour Day from 13:30h with Moses Ramnarine and Deon Feassal named to umpire the match while Andre Hurry is the reserve.
