Committed to stand High Court Trial, Carl Welcome Jr

However, a preliminary inquiry was conducted before Magistrate Esther Sam at the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court which proved that there was sufficient evidence against Welcome to stand trial in a High Court. As such, his will commence at the next practicable Session at the Suddie Supreme Criminal Court.
He remains on remand.
It was reported that following the incident, the Guyana Police Force (GPF) had issued a wanted bulletin for Welcome Jnr also known as “Ralph”. He was wanted for questioning in relation to the murder of a 23-year-old excavator operator, who was found dead on December 17, 2018, with his throat slit at his Capoey Lake Top home.
Initial reports stated that the deceased had a “holiday drink” for close friends and relatives at his home the evening before the incident occurred.
Relatives of the victim had reported that while imbibing, Melville left his home to purchase cigarettes at a nearby shop and returned with a young man whom he invited.
When asked about the stranger by relatives, the now-dead man said that he invited him to have a drink.
While relatives retired to bed, Melville continued drinking with the stranger. The following morning, Melville’s lifeless body was discovered lying face down in the house but the young man he had invited was nowhere to be found.
He was subsequently arrested and charged.
