Murder probe leads to discovery of guns, ammo

Police in Regional Division Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) have recovered two firearms and a quantity of ammunition as investigations continue into the murder of Moses Chapelle, called “Bizo”.
Chapelle was killed on Thursday last at about 21:30h at Blackwater Backdam, Cuyuni River.
Police said that as investigations progressed, a 45-year-old gold miner of Company Road, Buxton, East Coast Demerara, remains in custody in connection with the matter.
Further enquiries led ranks on Sunday at about 16:20h, to locations at Blackwater Landing, Cuyuni River, where the weapons and ammunition were found.
According to police, the items recovered included an AM-15 rifle and a .32 pistol.
Ranks also found two magazines containing 42 live .223 rounds, one magazine containing four live .32 rounds, one 9mm magazine, 70 live .223 rounds and 48 live 9mm rounds.
The recovered items were taken into police custody as investigations into the murder are continuing.
