Omela Singh, the mother of three who was attacked and stabbed by her reputed husband on Sunday, approached the authorities for a restraining order against the man on Friday. However, she was told to “come back Monday” since the people responsible for it were not working on that day.
“Friday gone, she gone to make a restraining order and they tell she that she gotto go back Monday [today], that it got special people wuh does look after that and that they wukkin on Monday and meen know what other day,” Omela Singh’s mother Sukhrani related to Guyana Times.
Singh, 27, of Lot 158 La Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara (WBD), succumbed to her injuries while receiving medical attention at the Georgetown Public Hospital. She reportedly took her last breath while undergoing surgery to remove a knife that was stuck in her abdomen.
The Police have stated that at about 12:30h on Sunday, the man identified as 49-year-old Omkar Singh of 11th Street, Diamond New Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara (EBD), visited the woman at her home where he attacked and stabbed the her to her body.

After committing the act, the man made good his escape but his car was found abandoned at the Canal Number 1 conservancy area. Police had made checks for the man but there were no signs of him. However, his body was on Monday morning pulled from the conservancy.
From reports received, after stabbing the mother of three, he reportedly ingested a poisonous substance.
The dead woman’s mother, Sukhrani Singh also called “Mini” told this publication that her daughter along with her three children lived with her.
On Sunday, Sukhrani said that she went to visit a few overseas relatives at Diamond while her daughter and grandchildren remained home. Whilst there, she related that her now dead daughter called her and told her that she was going to prepare chowmein since the man was bringing over his 16-year-old daughter to visit.

“I tell she not to open to the door when he come… he de already get lock up in Diamond after he de beat she bad so after she reported the matter, he was arrested and charged… so I didn’t want she to open the door because, he can always hurt she and the children,” the grieving mother stated.
Although the mother warned Singh not to open the door, she did after seeing the man’s daughter. Based on a camera recording, after the now dead woman saw the teenager carrying two black bags, she opened the door to allow her into the house.
“After the girl went into the house, the man run in and start slap and cuff meh daughter…when I look at the video, is like he had a knife in he hand but then I later hear that he went into the kitchen and pick up one ah me own and stabbed my daughter,” the woman recalled.
She noted that the video was too horrific to look at since there was a lot of screaming in the background. The woman further stated that despite his daughter pleading with him to stop hitting the now dead woman, he continued.
After a while, the teen could not take it anymore and she ran into the car where she remained until her father left the house and boarded same. The mother explained that she later learnt the man dropped off his daughter at a location and drove off the scene.
The daughter, according to the woman, reportedly told Police that her father had a bottle of poison in the car.
However, the distressed woman told <<<Guyana Times>>> that she received news of the stabbing incident at about 13:00h on Sunday. As she was heading over the Demerara Harbour Bridge, she received a telephone call informing her that her daughter was referred to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
She subsequently made her way to the hospital only to be greeted by her daughter’s body which was already wrapped in plastic lying on a stretcher in the theatre. At the hospital, she was told that her daughter died while undergoing surgery.
“Meh daughter de lying on a stretcher so I opened the plastic and she whole face de full of blood…I nah know how much stabs she get, was blood all over the house.” The now dead woman leaves to mourn, her three children aged 7, 6 and 2; her five siblings and mother.

Years of abuse
Omela’s brother Ravi told this publication that his sister lived with the suspect at Diamond, East Bank Demerara (EBD), but she left about two months ago. He said his sister suffered years of abuse during her relationship with the man, and that she had finally decided to leave.
She left about two months ago but there have been several reports of abuse made to the Diamond Police Station against her reputed husband.
“One time she did lock he up…they had some argument, he beat she and suh, and she did go give the Police them and they lock he up,” the brother related.
He noted too that his sister had in the past attempted to take out a restraining order against him, but every time officials tried to serve him, he evaded them. Guyana Times understands that as such, the woman abandoned the process.
The woman’s body is at the hospital mortuary awaiting a post-mortem.
