…in the PNC
The recent personnel move by Caretaker Granger has set a lot of tongues wagging as to what’s really going on in the upper layers of the caretaker government. Some of them might even be speaking in tongues since Granger insists he’s in communion with the Big Fella who speaks from behind burning bushes! What are the facts that’re out in the open at this time?
Well, for one, we know that Harmon is no longer the “Director General of the MotP”, which post had been created for him after he fessed up he was an American citizen. It’s another of the reasons PNC-types haven’t forgiven Charrandas – he just didn’t bring down the PNC-led government, he cut the legs under some of the big ones. They had to swallow the poison pill of dual citizenship when they went after the man who voted “yes…yes…yes!”
There was some ambiguity early on Saturday when it was announced that Harmon had been made CEO of the National COVID-19 Task Force (NCTF) Permanent Secretariat. He’d been referred to as “Director General, Ministry of the Presidency”. So just to make matters pellucid, a couple of hours later, the MotP issued a release that needed no “gloss”: “MotP wishes to clarify that Mr Joseph Harmon is no longer performing the functions of Director General of the MotP.”
While have hedged their bets and simply repeated the words “Harmon is no longer performing the functions of Director General of the MotP” verbatim, this paper insists: Harmon has been let go from the MotP. So, what is it? Just a ploy by Granger to have Harmon in a critical position from where he has the powers to do just about anything he wants to further the PNC’s cause?? Like shutting down the recount when they get to the “Mingo point”??
Or does it reveal a split in the PNC ranks after Granger got pi55ed about Harmon’s dossier to the Washington Lobbying group?? Not that the Group was hired…Granger was absolutely in on that deal…but that they listed him as a “US Citizen”!! He never wanted that to be out in the open and he’s absolutely livid!! How can he play his sanctimonious, butter-can’t-melt-in-his-mouth role when he’s now exposed as lying through his teeth on the citizenship question??
There goes all his hyper-patriotic pose through the window. How can you talk about being loyal to Guyana when you’ve sworn loyalty to a foreign power?? No wonder he insisted that the CJ’s ruling was her “perception” and he was entitled to his!!
But is Harmon actually out in the cold? Naah!! He’s just being disciplined.
As he would’ve in the army, when he committed an infraction!!
…and Nagamootoo
But what about the man who would be the once and future Prime Minister – Moses Nagamootoo?? Well, as you know when playing Musical Chairs, there’s one less chair than the number of players. And when the music stops, unfortunately one player has no seat. He’s OUT!! And it’s clear that Nagamootoo now is without a chair – even though he remains “Chairman” of the NCTF! Poor fella never did get to even Chair Cabinet meetings, as Granger had promised!
When he was PM, Harmon was the one who called the shots –- and so will it be once again. But as Nagamootoo confessed after the song had stopped and he found himself seatless, he’s used to working with Harmon. He shouldn’t have any difficulty maintaining his present supine position. Nagamootoo was never going to get any substantive position save to bloviate paeans of praise to Granger.
Did he think he’d get a chance to say how that $100 million from the US would be spent??
