“My drive comes from a desire to promote career development” – soldier on scholarship to Romania
Guyana Defence Force Lieutenant Terrence De Peana will soon depart Guyana for Romania, where he will pursue a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering at the Politehnica University of Bucharest.
The young officer was granted the scholarship from the Government of Romania because of his outstanding performance during his academic years at the University of Guyana, the army said in a release on Wednesday.
Lieutenant De Peana, who hails from Tucville, Georgetown, attended the Brickdam Secondary and St Roses High schools before completing a Diploma in Geological Engineering at the University of Guyana. He then enlisted in the Guyana Defence Force and underwent training on the Standard Officers Course 49 in 2016.
In 2019, he successfully completed an Associate of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, and was awarded the Best Electrical Engineering Student award from the Guyana Association of Professional Engineers, as well as the Best Student Award from the Faculty of Technology. He is currently a member of the Force’s Engineer Battalion.
In 2022, Lieutenant De Peana graduated with distinction from the University of Guyana with a Bachelor of Science (Electrical Engineering) degree.
Lieutenant De Peana is eagerly looking forward to his period of training in Romania.
“My drive comes from a desire to promote career development in this field. I have a lot of plans for the Force in terms of bringing Guyana’s standards and codes as well as a full uplift of the Force’s power systems. I don’t expect that this course will be a walkover, but I know that with great dedication I will get through. The values and standards instilled in me through my training in the GDF will ensure my success,” he said.
The programme will run for 3 years, the first of which will be studies in the Romanian language.
