NA prepares for biggest-ever Mashramani Parade

The annual Mash-ramani costume and float parade in New Amsterdam, Berbice is set for Sunday, March 3 and from all indications the municipality is taking full advantage.
Addressing reporters at a press conference held at the Municipal Chambers on Tuesday, Town Treasurer Kerriann Edwards noted that the Council took a decision to sell spots along the road shoulders for those who wish to vend.
The spots are being sold at varying costs. Craft spots are the cheapest with food spots being more costly. However, those who will be vending beverages will have to pay the most for their spots.

“Almost all of the spots have been sold. In terms of price, persons are comfortable with it. We have marked the road from St Ann Street up to Demico area. Banks DIH will bring out their music system and bar, Top Brands, the Ministry of Health are some of the agencies that have taken up spots,” Edwards noted.
She said that exhibitors will also be on show, noting that special arrangements have been made for kids.
“In the party zone, we are not going to be having any trampoline that would be on the outskirts. Because when the crowds come out, it becomes very distressful for the parents and kids,” the Town Treasurer said.
Mayor Winifred Heywood noted that several agencies, Government Ministries and corporate Guyana are expected to participate in the event.
The Mashramani celebrations in New Amsterdam are being organised by the Regional National Events Committee. This year, celebrations are held under the theme, “Celebrate 49 With Victory In Mind”.
