NA Town Council to hold statutory meeting at Park

The New Amsterdam Town Council has reversed a previous decision and will use the Esplanade Park for its statutory meeting amid concerns over the spread of the coronavirus.

The pavilion where the meeting is expected to be held

This is according to Mayor Winifred Haywood who made the announcement at a press conference on Friday.
“At first we said that we would close the Esplanade Park but then we realised that it is an open space and people might want to go and exercise and relax. We will try to sanitise the benabs there.”
However, the Mayor is appealing to citizens who wish to go to the Park to walk with their own sanitisers since they also have a responsibility to take care of their own health.

The Esplanade Park

She said with the current situation and following the guidelines of the Health Ministry, all special and committee meetings have been cancelled.
However, the Council’s statutory meeting set for next week will be held at the Park. “We will be having our statutory meeting but we will not be having it in the Council’s Chambers because of the regulations which say that you must be so many feet apart; we will be having it for the very first time at the Esplanade Park,” she confirmed.
The Mayor related that the Esplanade Park offers all that is being recommended for any gathering.

The closed Kiddies Park

Meanwhile, while the Park has been reopened, the Kiddies Corner remains closed. The Mayor said this is to ensure this safety of children.
