Armed bandits on Friday evening attacked and robbed a truck driver at his Glasgow New Housing Scheme, New Amsterdam, home.
Jason Hussein, 24, was home alone when the robbery occurred. Reports are the man was having dinner when the intruder entered through an open window with a cutlass.
According to Hussein, after seeing the man he threw his plate at the thief and dashed for the front door in a bid to escape and raise an alarm.
He said when he opened the door he was confronted by two other men – one armed with a firearm and the other with a cutlass. All three men wore masks and gloves, this newspaper was told.
During the confrontation at the door a shot was fired in Hussein’s direction which pierced his refrigerator. This newspaper was told that the armed men bound the truck driver then ransacked.
The J and A Variety Store operated by Hussein’s mother-in-law, Angeline Sattar and located in the same yard was also ransacked. The bandits escaped with two gold rings, three cellular phones and an undisclosed sum of cash.
Neighbours told this newspaper that they heard a single gunshot but initially though it was firecracker.
Meanwhile after the bandits left, Hussein was able to free himself and raise an alarm. Police arrived a few minutes later and combed the area but came up empty-handed.
No arrests have been made but investigations are continuing. (Andrew Carmichael)
