As the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) continues to push its mandate of restoring the glory of cricket in the Ancient County, associates of the organisation have been working tirelessly to ensure that they acquire funding to facilitate a programme which would see to the development of cricket within their region.
On that note, NAGICO Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Imran Mc Sood Amjad has now joined hands with the hardworking Board by providing financial sponsorship which will go towards expenses for the visit of Joseph “Reds” Perreira.
Perreira, who is a widely respected international cricket commentator and sports administrator, will be visiting Berbice July 19-22, 2018 as part of a comprehensive development programme. During his stay, the sports personality will meet with players, umpires, BCB Executives and representatives of clubs as part of an effort to strengthen management at both the club and board levels. NAGICO’s sponsorship will go a long way towards covering expenses for accommodation, meals, transportation and a one-day seminar with 100 persons.
BCB President Hilbert Foster, who is spearheading the historic visit, expressed gratitude to the NAGICO CEO for his timely support and also to former BCB Secretary Oscar Ramjeet for working beyond the call of duty to assist Berbice cricket. Ramjeet, he stated, has single-handedly assisted the BCB to raise over $2 million in sponsorship from overseas-based Guyanese.
The main objective of the four-day visit by the St Lucia-based Perreira is to assist clubs to strengthen their management structures so that they can achieve more on and off the cricket field. Special emphasis will also be placed on strengthening the overall operation of the BCB while getting officials to understand their list of duties. Perreira will also be meeting with the entire Berbice Under-15, Under-17, Under-19 and female cricketers as part of a comprehensive personal development programme.
Additionally, the BCB and the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club, MS, will also be honouring the legendary commentator for his service to the gentleman’s sport.
