NAMILCO to continue 50th Anniversary celebrations in Essequibo

A ‘Day of Sports’ had been successfully held on Sunday last (Independence Day) at the Albion Sports Complex on the Corentyne Coast in East Berbice to commemorate the National Milling Company’s (NAMILCO’s) 50th anniversary; and celebrations in this regard will continue in Essequibo with another ‘Day of Sports’ event.

This Essequibo event will be hosted at the spectacular Imam Bacchus Ground in Affiance on the Essequibo Coast on Sunday June 30, and great cash prizes will be up for grabs in the undermentioned events.
A 20-Over cricket match, to be played from 9:30am to 12:30pm. The winning team will receive $50,000 in cash, besides a trophy and medals; while the runner-up team would receive a trophy and medals.
A football match, which commences from 1pm and would last until 2:30 pm. Two top teams selected by the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) are slated to collide for supremacy in this contest. A total cash prize of $50,000, besides a trophy and medals, will be presented to the winning team; while a trophy and medals will be earned by the runner-up team.
All children present at the Imam Bacchus Ground during the Day of Sports would receive free exercise books.
The Berbice leg of the 50th Anniversary Celebrations has been deemed a total success. Schools from ‘the ancient county’ even benefited from the historic event. New Amsterdam Multilateral Secondary School (NAMS) have been winners of the events staged in the secondary schools’ category, while the Mc Gowan Primary School of Manchester-Liverpool area on the Corentyne were winners of the events staged in the primary schools’ category.
NAMILCO continue to make great leaps in the world of sports. They have come on board with cycling, hosting a racing event during the Linden Town Week earlier in May. They branded the outfits of the Fruta Conquerors, and sponsored the National U-17 Intra-Association Football Tournament. In addition to sponsorships of sporting event of recent times, NAMILCO have donated $500,000 worth of exercise books to Guyana’s leading sport club, the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTY&SC).
