Nand Persaud & Co Ltd sponsors female cricket tourney

The Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) had in March intended to host twenty-two cricket tournaments at different levels. Today it is on the verge of not only achieving that intention, but even surpassing it. Female cricket is special to Berbice cricket, and the BCB is as such pleased to partner with the largest company in Berbice — Nand Persaud & Company — to host a tournament for females.

The tournament, to be contested between the Rose Hall Town Metro Female Team and a combined New Amsterdam/Canje Team, will be played on a best-of-three match basis, with the team winning twice being declared champion.
Players such as Shemaine Campbelle, Erva Giddings, Tremayne Smartt, Shaneeta Grimmond, Shabika Gajnabi, Plaffiana Millington, Sherica Campbelle, Ameera Abrams, Ashley Ramnauth, Dian Prahalad, Uma Matadin and Mariam Samaroo are expected to participate in this historic tournament.
President of the BCB, Hilbert Foster, has hailed this Nand Persaud investment in female cricket, and has said he enjoys a close working relationship with Managing Director of Nand Persaud & Company, Mohindra Persaud. He had been one of several well-known Berbicians who had endorsed Foster for the BCB Presidency when the election of the Board was held.
This company will also be sponsoring two Under-15 trial matches in 2018 as part of the pro-active BCB early preparation for the Guyana Cricket Board’s (GCB) Inter-County Tournament for 2019.
The BCB will also be hosting the 2019 Mike’s PharmacyUnder-15 tournament, and a squad of 26 will be shortlisted after the completion of three rounds of matches.
Those selected will then form the core of the Berbice Team, and the coaches will have at least two months prior to the tournament to work with these selectees.
Similar arrangements would also be made for the Berbice Under-17, Under-19, Female Under-19 and Berbice Female Senior teams.
As Managing Director of Nand Persaud & Company Limited, Mohindra Persaud hailed the outstanding work of the BCB and expressed his company’s delight to be on board with such a dynamic, organised entity. The company also committed to continue supporting cricket in Berbice once the proper management is in place.
