Narco trafficker jailed for 1 year

An East La Penitence, Georgetown man who pleaded guilty to the offence of trafficking narcotics was on Tuesday sentenced to one year’s imprisonment when he appeared at the Linden Magistrate’s Court.

Nigel Hodge admitted that on February 16, 2019, at 58 Miles, Mabura, he had in his possession 38 grams of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.
The 53-year-old man, in plea of mitigation and in tears, explained to the court that he uses the illegal drug for medical purposes as well as an appetite stimulator.
However, Magistrate Wanda Fortune, after listening to Hodge’s mitigating factors, handed down the one-year prison term. He was also fined $57,000.
