National Gymnasium upgrade underway

In keeping with their ongoing drive to restore and upgrade sporting facilities across the country, the National Sports Commission (NSC) is currently remodeling the outer appearance of the National Gymnasium located on Mandela Avenue.
The drive which commenced in 2017, saw numerous venues across the country being fully restored with numerous upgrades. The popular Gymnasium, the home of sports such as; basketball, table-tennis, volleyball, archery, indoor-primary schools cricket and futsal is set to receive a spanking new outer looking once works are fully completed.

Guyana Times Sport confirmed with Director of Sports Christopher Jones on Wednesday that the Gymnasium was indeed a part of the restoration project and will have sublime outdoor facilities similar to the other venues, upon completion.
Much like the other grounds refurbished by the NSC, the Gymnasium is set to sport a multiple outdoor basketball courts with new bleachers. Also, works on the foundation of the playing areas and perimeters of the courts were in progress upon visit to the venue on Wednesday.
While no specific time was given for the completion of the Gymnasium, it is expected that within a few months the final touches will be added and the venue will be unraveled as a brand new indoor/outdoor multi-complex sport facility.
