National Paralympic Champion Gibran Sarfaraz continues to make a difference in developing the Sport of Table Tennis in the Region 6

Despite preparing for possible qualification for the Tokyo Paralympic Games, Pan American games qualifier ITTF level two coach and national Paralympic champion Gibran Safaraz has over the last few months, despite a global pandemic silently utilizing his time in helping CXC students from the Corentyne area in their physical education moderation exercises in addition to training and orienting students to the game in the evenings.
“I believe in the region we have an abundance of talent that needs harnessing nurturing incentives motivation, support, and coordinator, it is great to see how easy it is that students learn and adapt to the sport when given supervision and the facilities” Safaraz added.
With the opening of the estate facilities sports club which inhibited from playing in the past and with the influx of tables provided by the GTTA to schools, this it has provide the students with an avenue to play and practice the sport and for us to easily coordinate activities amongst students.
“It is great that we have Osafo Jarrell De Santos , Desiree Lancaster Coach Levi Nedd and a few other coaches working in the region which will help us to accelerate the development growth of the sport. This in addition to the program undertaken by the GTTA, the Allied Arts Unit Ministry of Education – Guyana and Regional Education department Reg 6, where Several teachers were trained to administer and coordinate the sport, I truly believe these are steps in the right direction and provides the inputs for us in the region to develop the skill level of the players build Inter school table tennis inter district as a means of developing the sport in the region getting players into national selection” Safaraz opined.

Offering insight on his Paralympic sojourn and plans he outlined that with the expansion of many of the Paralympic events in the Guyana cycle games this has now provided the opportunity for him to be more actively engaged and train harder, however he outlined that this would require financial support
With his eyes set on qualification for 2022 Commonwealth games in Birmingham UK 2022 and other events in 2022 he outlined that he would need to restart visiting Georgetown more frequently as done in the past to get better sparring with the top players in view of improving in addition to attending Paralympic events to ensure my rankings are in tune to allow me qualification positions for these events given that there will be limited qualification tournaments.
