National spots up for grabs

….GABF hosts 3×3 trials for Antilles U18 Championships

The Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF) will host a national qualifier for teams ahead of the 2018  International Basketball Foundation (IBF) Antilles 3X3 U18 Championships for Men & Women in St. Marteen.

The trials which tips-off from 09:30 hrs at the Burnham Court on Saturday has seen 10 teams register to date and caters for players born January 1, 2000 or after.
GABF will be hoping they can once again find powerful team since at last year championships in St Lucia, the likes of  Jamal Gilkes, Jonathan Mangra, Stanton Rose and Timothy Thompson made history by reaching the final against Martinique only to suffer their only lost 8-9. Rose fell short of the MVP by virtue of Guyana losing the Finals by one point in the last nine seconds of the game.

The battle for who will make the national 3×3 basketball will ensue on Saturday at the Burnham Court

On their path to the final Guyana would have defeated the likes of Barbados, Curacao, Antigua & Barbuda, Saint Vincent, Aruba and Guadeloupe.
However, their recent history in the format will be cause of concern since the team of Akeem Crandon, Isaiah Hintzen, Nigel Bowen and Shamar France had a forgettable outing at the South American Youth Games 3X3 basketball championship in Santiago, Chile this October.
Guyana had suffered an antagonising 11-13 loss against Ecuador which was then capped off with an embarrassing 21-2 defeat to Venezuela.
