National Toshaos Conference set for July 18

The National Toshaos Conference (NTC) has been set for July 18 to July 22, 2016.

Indigenous Peoples’ Affairs Minister Sydney Allicock made the announcement, noting that at the NTC all of the leaders of the indigenous communities around the nation will gather to discuss issues and policies which affect the nation’s first peoples with Government officials and various organisations.

According to Minister Allicock, the five-day NTC will be held at Arthur Chung Conference Centre.

“A large turnout is expected at the National Toshaos Conference. The [Neighbourhood Democratic Councils] NDCs are expected to have a majority of the Toshaos present at the Conference if not all because the Toshaos Conference is an area of business for them. The Conference is a very important time for the Toshaos,” the Minister stated.

Meanwhile, Minister Allicock confirmed the completion of the Umana Yana and noted the newly-constructed Monument has been handed over to the Education Ministry’s Department of Youth, Culture and Sport.
