Natural Resources Ministry assesses various sectors

The Natural Resources Ministry hosted its annual sector review at its Main Street office on Monday with the aim of strengthening its institutional capacity.
In a release on Tuesday, the Ministry stressed that this will provide a judgment of how well its agencies are performing and are expected to perform.
The session saw the involvement of subject Minister Raphael Trotman, Junior Minister Simona Broomes, along with staff of the Ministry and representatives of the various agencies that fall within the purview of the Ministry. Commission (GGMC), Guyana Gold Board (GGB), Guyana Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (GYEITI), Compliance Department, and the Forest Carbon Partnership Facility Project (FCPF) all formed part of the engagement.
In his brief remarks, Minister Trotman stressed Government’s positions and expectations of the Ministry and its agencies for the year. After this, the various sector representatives made presentations on the work of their respective agencies, which included “reports of projects, highlights for the year 2018, work plans, successes, challenges and the way forward. It further allowed an assessment of the economic and financial conditions and prospects of the agencies within the sector.”
The Ministry said that each presentation gave way for discourse where questions were asked and advice and recommendations on improvement were given. “The heads of the agencies were encouraged to continue the interagency coordination, for the enhancement of the implementation of systems, achievement of goals and overall improved sector performance,” the Ministry disclosed.
The Ministry added that it remains committed to working together with its agencies towards achieving Government’s vision. “Our ability to direct our energies towards our overall accomplishments is the fuel that allows us to continue the utilisation, promotion and sustainment of our country’s natural resources to the benefit of all Guyanese.”
