National youth player Ashmead Nedd entertained the small gathering of spectators at the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC), in a pugnacious 38-ball 100 hundred as the home team romped to a comprehensive 185 runs win over St. Stanislaus College in the final of the Guyana Diabetic Association/PAHO & Ministry of Health Under-17 T20 Competition on Thursday.
Nedd’s heroics powered DCC to a challenging total of 217-6 when their overs expired.
The left-handed Nedd, who opened the batting smashed eleven sixes and six fours in his enterprising innings.
After the first wicket of Robin Williams fell with the score on 05, Nedd and Garrick Persaud (24) put on 145 for the second wicket in 13 overs when Nedd fell.
Bagnarine Singh who made 30 (2x4s;3x6s) off 12 balls was the next best scorer, as St. Stanislaus gave away 40 runs in extras; Ezekiel Jones was the most successive bowler with 2-55.
In response to the daunting target set by DCC, Saints were blown away by some accurate fast bowling by Singh, who returned with the ball to snared 6-2 from his four overs. Left-arm seamer Dequan Bamfield chipped in with 2-6 as to bundle out the school boys for 32 in 10.3 overs.
Jones batting at number ten, was the top scorer with 11 as the next best score was Shamar Ryan with five.
