Neil Marks booted as Guyana Chronicle Sunday Editor
The Guyana National Newspapers Limited (GNNL) on Thursday announced that it has terminated the services of its Sunday Editor, Neil Marks, whose actions have “seriously compromised the production of the newspaper”.
In a statement, the entity said it regretted the decision but “Management as guided by the Board of Directors found it necessary in order to protect the newspaper.”
It went on to say that despite the obligations and responsibilities assigned to Marks in a senior position, his actions on more than one occasion have seriously compromised the production of the newspaper.
“It is imperative that GNNL, at all times, guard against the impairing of the critical service it provides as a public service media house,” the newspaper said in a statement.
The media house pointed out that a dedicated team of persons work beyond the call of duty to ensure the Guyana Chronicle is on the newsstand every morning. “It is untenable that their work and that service are jeopardised by the actions of one individual in a senior position,” the GNNL noted.
Editor-in-Chief Nigel Williams will oversee the responsibilities for the Sunday edition until a substantive Sunday Editor is appointed.
Finally, the GNNL wishes to thank Marks and wishes him well in his future endeavours, the release added.
