A new agriculture cooperative society has been officially established in Linden, Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice) and according to its members, this is a major step towards the advancement of food security within the region.
The Madinah Strait Agricultural Cooperative Land Society Limited was established at Wisroc, Wismar, Linden. It has been registered and has been officially launched with the handing-over of the registration document and a tree-planting exercise.
The simple ceremony was held at the Cooperative site along the Wisroc Back Road and saw regional officials, members and others in attendance.
President of the newly-established Cooperative, Kwesi Parks said the initiative was aimed mainly at providing food for members of the community at large.
“…For a very long time our region was out of such a wonderful programme…,” he
noted. While he explained that there were many challenges along the way, Parkes said the Co-op was committed to ensuring success. In strong support of the realisation of the Madinah Strait Cooperative was Regional Chairman Renis Morian, who offered words of encouragement to the newly-established Cooperative. He emphasised that togetherness was pivotal for its success. Morian said the initiative came to fruition owing to hard work and dedication of Co-op members. The Regional Chairman handed over the registration document to the Co-op President and was gifted a plaque by the members for his continuous support throughout the process. A tree was planted to mark the official launch of the newly-registered entity.
