With the new school term swiftly approaching, several children attending nursery, primary and secondary schools in New Amsterdam were beneficiaries of school uniforms and hampers donated by non-profit organisations and churches.
The Community Services Department of the Philadelphia Seventh-day Adventist Church at Philadelphia Street New Amsterdam distributed twenty school uniforms and six food hampers to children, while six families also received food hampers.
Leader of the Community Services Department, Sherry Ross-Henry, explained that the donation of uniforms is an annual initiative that has been ongoing for twelve years and targets single-parent families or the less fortunate.
“We are hoping that by next year we can double the amount to give to our community,” she explained.
