New… (convenient) “democracy”

As your Eyewitness recently pointed he can always count of Sanction man’s WIN to provide grist for his mill!! The latest was the much-heralded launch of their New York chapter – which was held not in Queens or Brooklyn but in a Bethpage catering hall out in Long Island!! The choice was quite curious – If WIN wanted to demonstrate it had tapped into the Guyanese community in New York many who can vote back home!! – Queens and Brooklyn would seem the obvious places to start since HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of Guyanese live there!!
Trying to explain the literal handful who showed up, an executive – not, of course, Sanction Man who was represented by his picture plastered all over the hall because if he enters the US it’s Orange Suit time!! – said this signaled “quality over quantity”!! Your (amazed) Eyewitness figures WIN must’ve discovered a new branch of political mathematics – one Bethpage supporter’s worth several thousand from Queens and Brooklyn since they are “quality”!!
And judging from the photographs, the caterer had to’ve spent more time arranging the chairs than WIN spent counting supporters!! You’d think with all the money Sanction Man siphoned off from his runnings, at least he coulda bussed in a crowd – which then shows the reason the launch was held out in the boondocks was WIN knew there wouldn’t be no crowds in Brooklyn or Queens – which their “quality” thesis couldn’t “explain” away!! Hence the old Guyanese ploy that whenever the numbers look bad – simply change the definition of success!! If the high-priced hall’s half-empty, don’t call it half-empty – it’s strategically under-occupied by “Quality”!! That’s the sort of mathematics gymnastics that could make even the old Guyanese “bottom house meetings” look like mass political conventions!!
But let’s get real, shall we?? Guyanese politics has always been a numbers game s- Burnham understood it; Jagan understood it and look what happened to the WPA – which didn’t understand it and went for “quality over quality”!! Not surprisingly, they disappeared like a mist that was everywhere when faced with sunshine – in this case democratic elections in 1992!!
So serious political parties will always go where the Guyanese community is concentrated – and where elections are discussed over curry, roti, pepperpot and mauby – and where everybody knows everybody’s political business!! So perhaps WIN decided Queens and Brooklyn had too much quantity of folks who know their business – which is clearly in the footsteps of Columbia’s Pablo Escobar to get into Parliament to stop their extradition!!
But Sanction Man seems to’ve forgotten Pablo’s lesson – democracy has a nasty habit of being rather insensitive to quality since it operates on something called votes.
And votes are counted as numbers – bigger the better!!

…(business) incarnation?
Back in the day, Burnham funded the fledgling PNC with a monthly US$5000 payoff from the CIA – which was big bucks then!! After seizing power and rigging elections, he had the entire treasury at his disposal, so when he decided to build a new PNC HQ, he allocated them 40 acres of prime land at Sophia!!
He tried to cover his tracks by placing the deed in a company Maikwak Ltd – and hustled supporters at his party Congresses to contribute towards building the red-brick buildings we see there today!! He clearly didn’t see himself ever losing power so he didn’t worry himself about the small matter of the company paying City taxes !!
A couple of years ago Jagdeo reminded them that Maikwak owes $6.7Billion in taxes to the City– but nothing was heard!! So now that Norton says he’s launched a PNC “business arm” under Maikwak Ltd, maybe the City Council – which pleads it’s so “cash strapped” – might remind him of the GY$6.7 billion??
