New dental clinic launched

…MP, NDC Chairman laud initiative to improve ECD service

A new dental clinic on Sunday officially opened its doors to the public by offering citizens living on the East Coast of Demerara and in Georgetown and its environs a higher quality of dental service; one unmatched by others within the field of dentistry.
The launching ceremony of ‘Idental’ saw in attendance close to fifty persons from all walks of life, including Peoples Progressive Party/Civic Member of Parliament Neil Kumar; Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Health, Shabana Ally; and Neighbourhood Democratic Council Chairman for the Better Hope to La Bonne Intention District, Zaman Shaw.
Addressing the audience, the PPP Parliamentarian said he was happy that the group of young business executives and medical professionals had teamed up to accomplish their common goal of providing better dental care to residents of Georgetown and the East Demerara Coast.
He said he was personally attended to by the chief surgeon attached to Idental, and was able to have a very satisfactory experience despite his fear of having work done orally.
Kumar said small initiatives like Idental go a long way in rebuilding the confidence of young people in their ability to work hard and accomplish their overall goals and life’s aspirations.
The Parliamentarian congratulated the young medical team, and urging them to work very hard over the existence of the business to maintain their standards and high levels of professionalism.
NDC Chairman Shaw also echoed similar sentiments as he gave the NDC’s blessings to the operationalisation of the new dental clinic. Shaw said the building that now houses the Clinic has a history of its own within the Montrose community, as it was once the location for FoodTown.
He urged its owner and dental surgeon to first look to the community to recruit and train staff that may be needed to man the facility before looking elsewhere for skills.
Shaw reiterated that the NDC is committed to working with new entrepreneurs in order to boost the economic fortunes of communities within the Better Hope to Montrose District.
In response, businesswoman Karen Manifold, who owns the Dental Clinic, promised she would work closely with all involved to maintain the standards of the entity, while delivering the best dental care possible with the equipment installed at the new facility.
Manifold said the idea to open the clinic was birthed during conversations with Dr Steve Baul, who is the Chief Surgeon at Idental. “We had this idea two and a half years ago; and I am a perfectionist, so I kept wanting to ensure that everything was in order before the launch or startup of the clinic”, Manifold told the audience.
As the ceremony climaxed, Dr Baul also delivered key remarks, as he underscored the importance of oral health and dentistry in any developing country that is serious about the ‘health and strength’ of its citizenry and human resources.
He spoke about his concept of ‘no fear dentistry’, before explaining that it was designed to be patient-centred and ensure that almost all who visit Idental for medical care would be treated professionally and warmly.
The state-of-the-art dental clinic is located at Lot 11 Montrose, East Coast Demerara, minutes away from Apex Educational Academy. It is housed on the middle floor of a three-storyed building.
Services offered include: night guard, sealants, dental veneers, fixed bridge, teeth whitening, dental crown, removable dentures, cleaning & polishing, root canal therapy, extractions (simple & surgical) and filling.
