The Department of Public Information (DPI), has reported that a new electricity substation at Kuru kururu, thousands of homes near St. Cuthbert’s Mission, and expanded economic opportunities are among the development plans outlined for communities along the Linden Soesdyke Highway.
According to the report, the initiatives were discussed Saturday, during a community engagement in Samville, where Minister within the Office of the Prime Minister with Responsibility for Public Affairs and Information Kwame McCoy, and Minister within the Ministry of Housing Vanessa Benn met residents to address local concerns and outline development priorities.
Minister McCoy said direct engagement with residents is essential to understanding them concerns and ensuring government policies respond to changing community needs. He urged residents to capitalise on opportunities in tourism, construction and agro processing, particularly as Guyana targets three million visitors annually by 2030.

The proposed substation at Kuru kururu is expected to expand electricity grid capacity and facilitate connections for communities along the highway.
He noted that housing developments at St. Cuthbert’s Mission, Hauraruni, Yarrowkabra, Hyde Park and Kuru kuru form part of broader efforts to accommodate applicants and establish organised settlements with access to essential services.
Meanwhile, Minister Benn urged residents to work with the relevant authorities to address housing concerns, explaining that privately owned lands fall outside the government’s direct control.
She cautioned against unauthorised occupation of private property and encouraged residents to use community engagements to raise concerns and offer recommendations.
Minister Benn added that the government’s outreach extends beyond housing to other public services, including pension assistance and identification documents.
