The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) is seeing new faces within its ranks as it continues to strengthen its human resources and enhance operational readiness. The latest cohort of soldiers was formally welcomed during the closing ceremony of the Basic Recruit Course (BRC) 2025-02, held at Base Camp Seweyo along the Linden–Soesdyke Highway.

The 12-week intensive course, which commenced on September 9, 2025, saw the recruits being trained rigorously in core military areas, including but not limited to skill-at-arms, marksmanship, first aid, and physical fitness. The course’s primary objective was to produce soldiers who are physically fit, obedient, loyal, and proficient in infantry skills.

Commanding Officer of the Training Corps, Lieutenant Colonel Drumson Mc Caulay, during a brief keynote address, charged the new servicemen to uphold the values and standards of the GDF, emphasising duty, discipline, identity, integrity, loyalty, and respect for law, respect for others, and correct social conduct.
Notably, several of the new soldiers demonstrated exceptional performances throughout the course and were rewarded with prizes. Recruit Hedwig Johnson achieved the Best Graduating Student award, whilst his colleague, Recruit Naresh Baptist, acquired the Runner-up Student award. Recruits Othniel Andres, Nissam George, Edgar Xaviar, and Naresh Baptiste attained the prizes for Best Military Knowledge, Best Drill, Best Shot, and Best Fitness, respectively.
Chief of Defence Staff Brigadier Omar Khan, MSS, officers, and ranks extend best wishes to the new soldier as they begin their careers in military service.
