New Human Services Minister on quest to advance social services
Human Services and Social Security Minister, Dr Vindhya Persaud on Thursday commenced duties under her new portfolio as she met with staff at the Ministry’s headquarters on Lamaha Street, Georgetown.

Persaud said she was looking forward to working with the team to advance the country’s social services sector, insisting that the welfare of the people was paramount.
In the company of Permanent Secretary Lorene Baird, the new Minister would be continuing to familiarise herself with departmental heads and their respective policies and operational guidelines.
Departments under her portfolio include Trafficking in Persons, Child Care and Protection, Probation and Social Services, Gender Affairs and Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence.
Prior to her appointment, Dr Persaud served as a Member of Parliament (MP) on the Opposition People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) bench. She is also the President of the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha.
