New Miss Universe to be crowned on Sunday

In a matter of hours, a new Miss Universe will be crowned, and without a doubt, Guyana’s representative, Rafeiya Husain has her eyes set on the shimmery coronet.
The crown is one of the most prestigious in the world, but it will take one courageous, beautiful, talented and well-disciplined young woman to walk away with it.
This year, the competition is among 94 delegates from around the world who are all well-polished, poised and ready to take up the title of Miss Universe 2017. The pageant is set for Sunday evening in Las Vegas, and it will be televised live around the world.
However, leading up to coronation night, the delegates competed in the National Costume Competition on Saturday last when Guyana sported a golden costume depicting the world’s largest one-drop waterfall – the Kaieteur Falls. Reviews of that segment were encouraging for Guyana.
On Monday evening, the delegates were faced with other preliminary competitions, including introduction, swimwear and evening gown. Again, Miss Guyana received fabulous reviews, but the spotlight of the evening went to Miss Indonesia and Miss Philippines.
In fact, one of the biggest pageant critics and followers, Global Beauties, has identified its top 16 for coronation night. Leading the race, according to the blog, is Miss South Africa followed by the delegates from the USA, Thailand, Russia and Indonesia.
Rounding off the top 16 are the delegates from Peru, Venezuela, Israel, Colombia, Philippines, Mexico, Spain, France, India, Guyana and Jamaica. Also in the running are Miss Canada, Miss Great Britain and Miss Chile. Nevertheless, the Guyana beauty is confident that her country will be called in the top 16.
Online voting continues until November 25 which allows persons to vote for their favourite contestants. In a recent interview with Guyana Times Entertainment, our beauty ambassador said she was going to put her best foot forward and would do Guyana proud.
The pageant will be televised live on TVG-28 beginning at 20:00h.
