Agriculture Minister, Zulfikar Mustapha joins Haji Ishmail (Pampy), family members and other officials for the commissioning of their multi-million-dollar mechanised poultry processing plant and hatchery at Fyrish, East Berbice-Corentyne, Region Six, on Sunday

Agriculture Minister, Zulfikar Mustapha represented President Dr Irfaan Ali at the commissioning ceremony, hosted by Haji Ishmail, also known as Pampy, and his family. The event included a Quranic reading programme.
The facility has a storage capacity of 300,000 pounds and is expected to support the handling and preservation of poultry products, while improving efficiency across the local supply chain.
Addressing the gathering, Mustapha congratulated Ishmail and his family on the investment, conveying best wishes on behalf of the President and himself.
The Minister said the establishment of the facility represents another step in the development of the poultry industry, reflecting the confidence of local entrepreneurs in Guyana’s economic prospects.
He noted that the investment complements the Government’s efforts to strengthen food security, increase agricultural production and encourage private sector participation in agro-processing.
Mustapha said the Government, under President Ali’s leadership, is working to transform the agriculture sector from one primarily focused on increasing production to one that places greater emphasis on processing, value addition, employment creation and the development of sustainable industries.
He explained that investments in mechanised poultry processing infrastructure are important to improving operational efficiency, strengthening food safety standards and reducing post-production losses.
Such facilities can also create economic opportunities for farmers, workers, transport operators and other businesses involved in the agricultural value chain, he added.
The Minister further noted that the plant’s storage capacity would contribute to the industry’s ability to preserve poultry products and improve the reliability of local supplies.
Mustapha also welcomed the decision to mark the commissioning with a Quranic programme, describing it as a reminder of the importance of giving thanks to Almighty Allah for His blessings.
He highlighted the Islamic principles of honesty, fairness in business, hard work and earning a livelihood through lawful means, noting that these values remain important to building successful businesses and stronger communities.
