New REO assures transparency, accountability will be restored

Newly-elected Regional Executive Officer of Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam), Dennis Jaikarran at the Regional Democratic Council (RDC) statutory meeting on Tuesday said that he would make drastic changes to ensure that transparency, accountability, professionalism, and respect returned to the Region.
While addressing the meeting, Jaikarran said that he was willing to work with the Council and would be open to all as the Region developed.
On this note, he stated that the delay of payments, especially to contractors and

suppliers, would be corrected. As such, he added that corruption would not be tolerated and all boards would have to function with professionalism and respect.
On other matters, Jaikarran informed the RDC that he would not be living in the house provided by the State, but preferred to live at his home in Lima Housing Scheme and he would be paying all his bills. He further stated that he would not need security at his home.
In addition, the REO promised to advertise all contracts in the newspapers and to make the tendering process more open and transparent.
“Region Two has the potential to be self-sufficient, but with good planning, cooperation and good management; the Region can take care of itself,” Jaikarran stated.
Region Two is mainly a rice-farming district, but with the coconut industry now blooming, farmers, especially those in the Pomeroon, are returning to planting coconuts.
With the vision of the new REO and cooperation from all stakeholders, residents believe that Pomeroon-Supenaam could become a leading Region in the country.
