New THAG President to forge stronger ties with Govt
Newly elected President of the Tourism and Hospitality Association of Guyana (THAG), Mitra Ramkumar, has said his team would continue to strengthen its relations with the Government to further develop the local tourism industry. Ramkumar told the Department of Public Information (DPI) that building stronger relations with the Government is a priority on his ‘immediate agenda’. “I want to take it to a new level and collaborate in every aspect. We need to speak with one unified voice, and that needs to be key in every event we have,” he said.
Ramkumar added that visitors to Guyana are focused on the experience, and not
on whether the holiday package is offered by THAG or the Government. Therefore, he said, “We need to work together to give them that Guyana experience.”
He noted the collaboration would ensure the promotion of Destination Guyana, which he believes will benefit all Guyanese.
Minister of Business with responsibility for Tourism, Dominic Gaskin, said his ministry would continue to foster stronger relations with THAG, and stressed the importance of public-private sector partnerships.
Ramkumar, who is also the Chief Financial Officer of Roraima Airways, was elected as the new President of THAG after elections were held at the Association’s Annual General Meeting on June 29.
According to a THAG press release, other Executives include Vice President Camille Boodhoo, Managing Director of Old Fort Tours & Angelina’s Travel Service; Treasurer Harrinand Persaud, Chief Financial & Marketing Officer of King’s Jewellery World; Committee Member Alexandra Correia, the Market Research and Investor Relations Manager for the Correia Group of Companies; Committee Member Davie Sukdeo, Senior Sales Manager of the Guyana Marriott Hotel; Committee Member Kevin Daby, General Manager of Grand Coastal Hotel; and Committee Member Jacqueline Allicock, General Manager of Surama Eco-lodge.
